REGISTRATIONS
Registrations will be open a few months before the event.
FEES
Congress fees stand at:
- Early registration: € 360
- Late registration: € 400
- EMS members registration: € 280
- Early Student fee: € 180
- Student fee: € 200
SCHOLARSHIPS
Organisers will give an opportunity to all interested participants and will offer support for students and mathematicians from disadvantaged backgrounds. A financial support subcommittee will select between 100 and 200 beneficiaries who will be able to participate at the congress free of charge. Local organisers will also cover their accommodation in the nearby student dormitories. The grants will not cover travel expenses, in order to prevent opportunistic applications. The organising committee is committed to increasing the number of supported people, if the EMS and other sponsors will contribute to the fund for improving access for students and mathematicians from developing countries. The number of final beneficiaries depends on the success of attracting external investors to the event. In best-case scenario, we will be able to reimburse 200 participants, while in worst-case scenario we will have to lower this number to 100 participants.
The local organisers will appoint a committee, which will award the grants and make all necessary arrangements for a transparent process assuring equal access to all. The committee will be responsible for guaranteeing that the best candidates receive the grant.
Grants will be distributed among different target groups. Preliminary distribution of grants:
- 90 grants will be available for PhD students
- 30 grants will be available for excellent Master and Bachelor students (with recommendations from professors)
- 50 grants will be available for postdoc researchers (maximum 5 years after they finished their PhD)
- 30 grants will be available for senior researchers
Grants will be open to nationals of developing countries as defined by the European Mathematical Society:
- Europe: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, FYR Macedonia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan;
- East Asia and Pacific: Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Dem. Rep., Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines;
- Latin America and the Caribbean: Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay;
- Middle East and North Africa: Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Jordan, Syria, West Bank and Gaza, Yemen;
- South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka;
- Sub-Saharan Africa: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Dem. Rep., Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe)
If the number of successful applications will not exhaust the number of reserved grants, nationals of other countries will be invited to apply. Priority will be given to:
- participants from low performing EU Member States according to the EU Horizon 2020 programme (Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Slovakia);
- participants from European countries neighbouring EU, not already included in the list of EMS (Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Belarus, Russian Federation, Turkey, Georgia, Moldova, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia);
- specific groups of people, including women, students and unemployed mathematicians who are members of EMS or one of its National Math Societies.
An open call for awarding grants will be published, which will give equal access to all interested individuals. The deadline for applications will be 6 months prior to the 8th European Congress of Mathematics.
All grant applicants will have to supply the following information:
- Personal data relevant for registration (including name, surname, address, institution and date of birth);
- Highest degree awarded to date (institution, date);
- CV;
- Motivation letter;
- List of publications, conferences, etc.;
- Recommendation letter from an esteemed EU institution;
- Students will also have to supply 2 recommendation letters and transcript of records).
Final arrangements will be discussed with the EMS before the publishing of the call and might include adapted criteria and revised target groups.
